Hidden behind the highest mountains on earth, Lhasa stands on the 'roof of the world' in the shadow of its past. Less than 50 years ago, it was the capital of a Buddhist theocracy ruled by a god-king, the Dalai Lama, and at the heart of a flourishing religion and culture. While it is now an autonomous region of China, the spirit of Lhasa lives on through the Dalai Lama and his people, expressing itself through some of Tibet's most exuberant creations: decorative and religious furniture.
