The voices from a Boston homeless shelter are the voices of DIS, a city of the not-quite damned on the outskirts of Hell, the voices of dis-ease, dis-tress, dis-respect, dis-placement, dis-sonance, dis-turbance, dis-possession, dis-organization, dis-ruption, and dis-tance. These dramatic monologues comprise the pool of material McNiece used in the various performances of his one-man show. Here are the hopeless, the mentally ill, the grifters, the hopeful with delusional dreams, and many others from the dissociated world of those just outside the mainstream of American life.
