Hardcover, 12 x 12 with 28 large color plates. Franklin Sirmans wrote in a 2006 essay titled Fact is Fiction... If Henri Rousseau and Matthew Barney had a baby boy, he might make work like Wendell Gladstone. Like Rousseau, Gladstone painstakingly renders the natural and fantastical in landscapes dotted with animal and human life, and often hybrids of the two. Like Barney, Gladstone has a penchant for the mythological, through often grounded in the scientific basis of biology and genetics. Essay by Los Angeles Times art critic David Pagel and foreword by Raphaela Platow, Director and Chief Curator for the Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati.
