This volume of the handbook provides a comprehensive overview of the major functional systems that together make up the central nervous system. Individual chapters deal with the organization of each of the sensory systems, the motor control system and systems that integrate responses involving multiple sensory and motor components. Special emphasis has been placed on the identity of neurotransmitters within this circuitry.
