War and Peace in the Gulf offers the reader a detailed study of developments in the Gulf, and particularly in Iran and Iraq, during the period from 1980 to 1990.The authors include in their analysis an account of the 1990 crisis in Kuwait and the effects of that crisis on the wider dynamics of the region's politics. They link the events of August 1990 to earlier developments throughout the Gulf region that were prompted by the Iran-Iraq war, and at the same time offer a basis for understanding the complexities of current and future developments in this troubled area of the Middle East.Domestic politics are examined, as are changing regional political relations (with particular reference to Iraq), while trends in the military balance, arms transfers and defence investment policies also come under scrutiny. In addition the reader is provided with a comprehensive collection of key documents and resolutions, as well as a useful chronology of Gulf events covering the period under review.
