Geosimulations is a computational approach to simulate complex geographic phenomena that we interact with and influence on a daily basis. It plays an important role in providing an improved understanding of complex spatiotemporal systems, such as ecosystems, transportation, weather/climate, cities and landscapes. As computing technology continues to advance and become more widely available, we envision new techniques for spatial data collection, management, and analysis. Likewise, emerging global challenges like the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic may require the research community to continue to develop new simulation methods for the effective control and preparedness. While a conventional simulation approach often relies on closed-world assumptions, we believe, to address emerging challenges there is a need to integrate research across different domains. In this context, the GeoSim workshop attempts to bridge this gap by focusing on simulations as a general paradigm to model and understand the behaviors of complex systems. The simulation techniques presented and discussed in the workshop are applicable to a broad range of applications cutting across research communities.
