It was bitterly cold in the winter of 1946. Even the comparatively wealthy Thalheim family could only dream of an opulent Christmas celebration, their department store on the Ku'damm was in ruins. One evening the bitterly cold winter wind forces a little boy to take shelter at the makeshift fashion shop on Savignyplatz. Erich is half starved and seems to be all alone in the city. On the spur of the moment, Rike Thalheim, the eldest of three sisters, takes him home. Rike, Silvie and Florentine agree that the little one should have a Christmas that he will never forget.
