When Isis Comes to Dinner, the latest offering in the Matthew Alexander mystery series, features Lt. Matthew Alexander’s wife, Carla Alexander. A play in three acts, When Isis Comes to dinner depicts the events that unfold during Carla’s dinner party held a week before Christmas for the benefit of her good friend, Maggie Wilson Vincent, who is enmeshed in a violent marriage with her abusive husband, Jim Vincent. In order to help Maggie, Carla enlists the support of their mutual friend, Tracy Jones, a former assistant prosecuting attorney for the District of Columbia, in a risky attempt to help Maggie escape her abusive marriage before something tragic happens. Carla and Tracy both agree that Marvin Wilson, Maggie’s half-brother, may be their best chance to help their friend escape her violent marriage. Carla decides to hold a dinner party a week before Christmas for the sole purpose of inviting Marvin who has recently been paroled from prison for selling marijuana from the basement of both his and Maggie’s father, Rev. Walter Wilson’s, church. Carla and Tracy jointly agree that enlisting Marvin to rattle Jim Vincent’s cage is the only option left open to them since Maggie refuses to either divorce Jim or press charges against him for physically abusing her.
