Ex Metropolitan Police detective Nathan Mason is now living in New Zealand with business heir Loretta Mykanos. They go on a working holiday to her family villa in Cyprus. The villa Anapetri sits in the small sleepy Greek Cypriot village of Anapetri near Famagusta. The village is just south of the green line and border crossing which separates Cyprus from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The villa land is extensive and holds fourteen houses and small holdings which have been rented to Cypriot families. The land was purchased in 1974 by Stelios Mykanos Loretta's father, but there lies the problem. The local council are insisting they have no proof of ownership of the land, and want to make a compulsory reclamation so that they can sell it to a Russian landfill company. Nathan goes in search of the missing documents on behalf of the Mykanos group. He receives information that they are likely to be in a safe in the basement of an office in a city which has been closed to the outside world since 1974, Varosha in Famagusta. If he can't retrieve them, the villa, houses, and livelihoods, are all at stake. What makes matters worse is that the Russian Landfill company are acting under false pretences and are actually a mining company that could potentially ruin the fragile and beautiful local environment, all whilst lining shareholders pockets. Russian thugs are also involved and start to apply pressure because they want the land, and they are intent on disposing of any such ownership documents if they do indeed exist.
Nathan has to enter the forbidden city of Varosha, Famagusta, but before doing so he uses drone technology to locate the building which is his target. The drone gets shot down by armed security personnel who are positioned sporadically throughout the city. Does Nathan still go in to try and retrieve the documents? its dangerous and he would be risking his life. Is the reward worth the risk?
