This present-day story of Jason and Jennifer is intertwined, in eerie counterpoint, with a two-hundred-year-old story of the powerful, but little-known Assiniboine Chief named Minä Yuha. Upon a chance encounter with Jason (a heavy-equipment sales representative), Jennifer (a successful Research Psychologist) discovers that he is gifted with a rare capacity to place-dream. Although they make an exceedingly unlikely match, Jennifer and Jason find their destinies thrown together into a volatile fusion as they pursue a dark fur-trade secret buried in the history of the northern Great Plains. For both, the past becomes uncomfortably personal as they are forced to confront, and come to terms with, similarly dark secrets of their own. This is historical fiction at its best, reaching deeply into the violent soul of Canada and USA's past, and widely across our landscape. Gradually, respect and tenderness are born of a ruthless environment.
