On the 1st April 1996 the Environmental Protection Act comes into force, transferring responsibilities for environmental protection to new Agencies. This manual incorporates the text of the Environment Act 1995 establishing the new Agencies together with the legislation containing theirpollution control functions. In addition to the statutes, the manual contains a comprehensive set of statutory instruments, which form an essential part of the legislation together with other associated materials.The Environment Agency will take over the functions of the National Rivers Authority, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution and waste regulation authorities, Her Majesty's Industrial Pollutions Inspectorate and certain functions of other authorities.
