This volume brings together poems from four decades of Geoffrey Hill's work. "If one had now to choose a living poet in English whom Boris Pasternak would recognize, whom George Seferis and T. S. Eliot would take seriously, Geoffrey Hill is the most obvious choice" (Peter Levi).
