With California's professional theatrical community flourishing as never before, it seemed time to chronicle its amazing growth, diversity and achievement in some permanent way. The 'California Theatre Annual' came about to give the state's many productions more permanence and to provide a public record of what previously existed mainly in newspaper morgues and human memory.
