The present publication makes available satellite images covering one of the most important burial and cult areas of ancient Egypt and human history during the Old Kingdom period (ca 2700 2200 BC): the sun temples of Abu Ghurab and the pyramid fields of Abusir, Saqqara and Dahshur. These sites cover approximately three thirds of the Old Kingdom pyramids of the kings built and some of the most important cemeteries of the nobles of the period. To facilitate understanding of the individual scenes, included are also previous, historically unique maps of the area. Atlas starts with the map of the pyramid fields commissioned by Napoleon. Also maps of Perring, Lepsius, Mariette, de Morgan, Reisner and Smith as well as relatively recent maps produced by Egyptian authorities are included. The maps produced by Karl Richard Lepsius and Jacques de Morgan are for the first time produced as single, large format sheets (cca 2000mm/78 ). They are followed by 12 satellite close-ups of the pyramid fields. Satellite images published in this detail for the first time were made available by the Czech Institute of Egyptology. They provide very detailed picture of the named sites and their respective cemeteries and open new ways towards their interpretation. Atlas is published in a limited number of copies.
64 pages
size: 487x328mm (19.17x12.91 inch)
3 large attached maps: Lepsius, de Morgan and large satellite image all 1900mm (75.83 inch) long!
English and Czech language text
