^the beach were central; portraits of families or of themselves. Tuxen also renewed some of the known motifs, painting for example the modern bathing lifestyle enjoyed on Skagens beaches - nude models in the open air - and also painting Skagen Harbour; one of the few Skagen painters to do so. Tuxens late Skagen works bear witness to the fact that he brought to Skagen inspiration and knowledge from his many years abroad; and the inspiration from the French Impressionists is clear in his loose, impasto brush-strokes, set off by pure colours and a pronounced sense of lighting effects.0This exhibition presents, through a series of thematic impacts in Tuxens work, the story of a complex artist, who gained great significance not only for his art-political and didactical engagement in the establishment of Kunstnernes Studieskole and Skagens Museum, but also for working simultaneously as a court painter in the royal house of England.0Exhibition: Skagens Museum, Denmark (03.05-14.09.2014).
