MAGAism predated Trump, and had it’s roots in the Truther, Birther, and Tea Party movements. Yes, Trump oozes charisma for many white Christian nationalists in his crowd. He seems to be the reincarnation of Rush Limbaugh. But Trump is simply an ornament attached to the front of the Reb limo. Lifting the hood, you uncover a motor stamped with white grievance. Currently, the engine lacks horsepower to move the vehicle which sits in a MAGA-mire consisting of three tenets: white nationalism (the flag), voter suppression, and Christian freedom, the coercive kind. Based on our current trajectory we can hope for the best, but expect things to worsen. All that is missing is a severe economic downturn, an eruption of large scale street violence in a major metro area, or a disputed 2024 Presidential Election. This polemic consists of observations and opinions from the author, who is a happy pessimist. His goal is to offer an engaging one hour read, a subway novel, with a series of 15 of my political posters.
