The protagonist of this story is Andrés, a boy who was tired of being told off and insulted because of his clumsiness. The insults hurt him as if he were swallowing something sharp, and the more he was insulted, the more monstrous he felt and the more his rage would grow inside him. As drawing was his favourite hobby, one day he painted a monster with the things that he hated most about himself: a dental brace, big ears, thin duck legs and a small chubby body. Andrés painted this being in a most decided way while he was being shouted at and told he was an angry, complaining, bullying, shouting, frightened being. When he had finished, he looked at the eyes of the monster, who took such a fright that he jumped out of the paper and into the room, hiding behind a teddy bear, begging Andrés not to hit or insult him. This is the monster that each human being has inside, made of what each of us hates most about ourselves, and which most of us daren’t throw out in order to feel better. Andrés was brave when he faced the monster and, no matter how ugly it was, he thought it was the best monster in the world and both of them were to be good friends from that moment on.
