Elizabeth Steward was born on Galiano Island and has spent most of her life there, with time out to graduate from the Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing, and to obtain a B.A. Sc. from the University of British Columbia. For some years she was the only person delivering everyday healthcare on Gliano. As one old-timer observed: "she has been in every bedroom on the island!" She has had some lengthy stays in London and Paris being immersed in music and painting. Mrs. Steward's book of drawings of Galiano houses predating the 1930s and her account of the people who lived in them is a lively introduction to the social history of the island, spiced with some rare items of gossip. The book will appeal both to residents and visitors to Galiano.
