This book, “The San Francisco Calamity,” was authored by the late Charles Morris, and published after the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake and resulting fires. Published after this natural disaster occurred, it provides a myriad of comprehensive accounts as it happened, and of the days following. A first-hand account of the extreme and almost complete devastation of San Francisco, resulting from the earthquake and the fires, also speaks of the rescue efforts, and the beginning of rebuilding San Francisco. Fascinating in itself, are the eyewitness accounts and the stories of heroism as well as generosity from other cities, and states in order to provide relief for the now many starving, and sudden homeless. As a society, people from every walk of life sent help, to help those now in need. From clothing, to food and medical supplies and much more. People cooked in the streets and lived in tent cities.
