Product Description There is an urgent need to sensitize social work educators, practitioners and researchers regarding the importance of developing, standardizing and documenting best practices relating to all the three pillars of higher education, namely, teaching, research and extension. The time has come to give a clarion call to social workers around the country and even around the world to innovate and come up with newer and more effective teaching methodologies, practical interventions with individuals, groups and communities, and even devise innovative and efficient strategies of research, in order to take our profession to the position of being truly professional. It is in the above context that the present volume is brought out as a compendium of selected scientific papers and experiential reports, showcasing best practices and innovations in professional social work with specific reference to the three main areas of social work teaching and education, research and extension. These may be an eye-opener for future generations of social workers to think on the lines of developing such practices, document them systematically through evidence-based research and inform the public about the valuable contributions being made by social workers in different vital areas of social life, nation building and development. About the Author Dr. Ilango Ponnuswami is currently Professor & Head, Department of Social Work, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli. He has published research articles in reputed journals like Indian Journal of Social Work, BOLD, Indian journal of Social Psychiatry, Indian journal of Criminology and Criminalistics and edited two books on social work. He is the editorial board member of the Journal of Transformative Education. He received the Best Youth Red Cross Programme Officer Award for 2004-2005 from the Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch.
