The empire and Spanishness. The two terms are essentially linked. Starting in 1492, when the Moor was defeated in the Iberian Peninsula, thus culminating the Reconquest, the Hispanic Gesta also launched itself across the Ocean. As of such an emblematic date, "Las Españas" are a reality, and not just a project. Peninsular, insular and American Spain. From the Columbian trips, an immense community will be created that will share two sister languages, and the same Catholic religion and worldview. These essays bring together diverse visions of that great community that we still form. We do not want to revive a dead person, moved by sick nostalgia.
