This study ascertained levels of dioxins and furans at 23 sites in the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, the interior and the Skeena region. Sampling sites were divided into combustion sources and chemical sources and over 170 samples were collected and analyzed for dioxins and furans and a lesser number for organochlorine compounds and PCBs. Soils, sediments, foliage, shellfish and fish, sludge, ash, runoff, and leachate were analyzed and each was categorized as primary, secondary, or background. Results were compared to levels found in other parts of the world. This report presents the results of the study.
