In Ready for Maths: Adding, children are asked to count in groups, add up to 7, add up to 8, add ones to 10, add up to 20, add 10’s, and add 10’s and ones. The book is divided into 3-steps, “Let’s begin,” “Let’s learn,” and “Let’s move ahead.” Within each step, kids are encouraged to count objects, read spelled-out numbers, match numbers with objects, make drawings to reflect numbers, count and write, and read simple word problems. Children are also introduced to bar modeling, number bonds, and addition “sentences” or calculations. Ready for Maths is a 3-step activity-based series that develops confidence in the early Mathematics learner. The three steps include: Step 1: Let’s begin – The child is introduced to a mathematical concept. Step 2: Let’s learn – The child uses the mathematical concept he or she learned to solve simple problems. Step 3: Let’s move ahead – The child confidently uses the concept to grasp more complex ideas and to solve more challenging problems. This systematic and interactive series includes two levels—Level 1 and Level 2—which each contain four books. All of the books target mathematical confidence through carefully chosen topics for early numeracy. Thematic lessons provide “let’s talk about” material so that children are able to have fun and engage with the content while they learn. Young mathematics learners gain confidence in identifying the mathematical concepts in real life situations and in the world around them.
