After one tough winter with snow drifts up over the tops of the cabins, Uzziah discovered Immanuel sitting in his cabin, staring at the fire. He could barely get a response from the man. He traveled down to Vrain’s Trading Post and when he got back, Immanuel was still sitting in the same chair, with the fire built back up. Uzziah decided he had to do something. He showed his partner of all these years an article on Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Extravaganza and suggested they join Colonel Cody when he went to England to do his show. The men and some traveling companions left for the East Coast. Trouble followed them into New York City, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from boarding the State of Nebraska and making the trip to England. The passage across the Atlantic was good, and they settled into their camp and started practicing for the show. Meanwhile the Prince of Wales decided to take Lillie Langtry to the Wild West Show, and when he made the acquaintance of Annie Oakley, he got an idea. When Immanuel met the Prince of Wales, he challenged the prince to a fist fight. Uzziah couldn’t believe it. At Windsor Castle, the contest turned into a horse race between Persimmons, the Prince’s derby-winning horse, and Stygian. Back at the celebration of the Wild West Show they threw a special show for Queen Victoria. Much to her son’s surprise, she showed up, and made, at the opening ceremonies, a gesture that became known all over the world. Immanuel became more and more lethargic and they headed home. Finally, in Virginia his health came to a crisis. Join the boys as they battle a less formidable, but more enduring foe—time. Will Immanuel not make it back to his mountain home? Will Uzziah stay on in Virginia and let his ma take care of Immanuel? Join the two mountain men, who have fought and survived so many enemies, as they face the aging process for the senior partner of the duo.
