Commercial, recreational, and residential development in the Bow Valley of Alberta has increased to such an extent that it is important to take steps to ensure that wildlife habitat does not become increasingly fragmented and that functional wildlife linkage corridors between habitat patches are addressed. These guidelines provide a co-ordinated approach to recommendations regarding the management of human use activities within wildlife corridors and habitat patches in the Bow Valley. The recommendations are mainly based on criteria related to the size (width) of the corridor or habitat patch (area) as well as the seasonal sensitivity of the area from a wildlife perspective. The recommendations include permanent or seasonal closure of certain trails, restrictions on the presence of dogs, public education initiatives, and data collection.
