This new edition allowed us the opportunity to update and expand our chapters. It also allowed us to incorporate specific suggestions made by a number of our colleagues in other institutions. We felt these suggestions were very helpful and make for a better text. For instance, two entirely new chapters were commissioned and written one concerning psychiatric disease in neurology and another covering the borderland between neurosurgery and neurology. There are 34 chapters organized as follows: I.) Two initial chapters on the neurological examination (adult and child). II.) Four chapters on practical neuroscience neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, neuroradiology and neuropathology. III.) Twenty-six chapters on the various areas of neurological disease. IV.) Two new chapters covering psychiatry and neurosurgery. The material presented here is succinct, focused, accurate, and hopefully helpful to the reader. We have attempted to cover most of the important scientific and clinical information that the competent neurologist should have at their disposal. This new edition includes more case-based questions at the end of each chapter, with over 700 examination-type questions. While some readers will read the book from cover to cover, we suspect that many will pick chapters based on their individual needs. For that reason we asked each author to prepare their chapters so as to serve as a stand-alone reference review. We hope this book will not only serve its purpose to review basic neuroscience and clinical neurology but will also be an enjoyable read. To this end, the authors have tried to make these chapters readable and thought provoking. We sincerely hope this goal is achieved.
