With global familiarities and cultural ties, the UK is seen as a “second home market” which is favorable to other European markets as a place to do business. This is in part due to the world-class education system, which students from around the globe come to experience. There is evidence which shows that if you are educated in the UK you are more likely to return in the future. There has also been some research into the benefits for the UK and for international students in their future careers. Most international students obtaining a work visa move into a STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) related job. For decades, Chinese investors are keen to make the most of the investment opportunities available in the UK, and between 2016–17, Chinese Foreign direct investment (FDI) had reached record highs of £86.3 billion.
