Avalon -- a novel of jazz, sex, and sport fishing. From the speakeasies of 20s Los Angeles to the iconic bay of Catalina Island, Bill Livingstone struggles to satisfy his lusts for music and for love. Can he find the world he's looking for? What price, Paradise? Avalon is a literary novel set in Southern California, focusing on Catalina Island, a glamorous sea-side resort. Its prose style is reminiscent of modernist writers of the era, but with an ironic, surrealistic edge. Interior illustrations are in a similarly ironic style. Hugh Bonar has written for the LA WEEKLY and SPIN magazine, and performs music as the solo artist HB3. This is his first novel.
