In this video series, Zoro pays homage to those unsung heroes and creators of the funky beat. In Vol. 1, Zoro methodically documents the greatest influences on soul drumming from gospel to blues to early R&B to New Orleans and right on through to the Motown sound. Original songs by R&B legends such as James Brown, The Meters, Aretha Franklin, and The Four Tops are covered. Topics demonstrated include ride work, dynamics, buzz stokes, and some innovative exercises for mastering the shuffle. (60 min.)
