About the Author Jenny Mahler started writing music for female voices and experimenting with harmonies from a young age. Having trained as a classical pianist, she became an accompanist for an ex-miners' choir, falling so in love with choral music that she decided to take the conductor's baton herself. Mahler has directed, performed with, and composed for choirs internationally and from across a multiplicity of genres including gospel, musical theatre, secular, and sacred music, all of which contribute towards her distinctive composing style.
This work investigates the integration of vocal performance with rhythmic percussion to evoke the natural imagery of weather patterns. The composer, Jenny Mahler, utilizes her extensive background in choral direction and classical piano to construct a piece that bridges traditional choral arrangements with modern percussive elements. The argument presented is that the combination of SATB harmonies, body percussion, and congas creates a more immersive and dynamic auditory experience for both performers and audiences.
