This work investigates the musical expression of interconnectedness within the natural world through the medium of a cappella choral composition. Cecilia McDowall utilizes the text of Heather Lane to explore how wisdom and knowledge are transmitted through organic systems. The composition serves as a technical framework for SATB choirs to simulate the resonance and communication found in forest ecosystems.

Choral directors and musicologists frequently identify this piece as a sophisticated exercise in imitative vocal texture. Experts highlight the work for its effective use of call-and-response structures to mirror the thematic concept of natural affinity.
