No one ever suspected that the first alphabetic inscriptions would be in Akkadian, the written language of ancient Mesopotamia found only in cuneiform until now. This book describes how alphabetic writing originated and for the first time accurately translates its earliest texts like the famous Moabite Stele. These texts show that ancient Israel practised a sophisticated paganism prior to a severe 10 year drought which started in 850 BC. This was the time of the prophet Elijah and Queen Jezebel. The resulting socio-economic and religious revolution destroyed the old order and made Yahweh ("Lord" in the Bible) the god of Israel. These texts end up forcing a rewriting of ancient Israelite history.
