The Last Judgement occupies a central position in many religious buildings, including Notre-Dame in Paris and Amiens, the Cathedral at Lyons and the large basilicas in Rome. It also appears in many smaller sculptural reliefs, in free-standing pieces, on stained glass windows, frescoes, paintings, carved objects and manuscript illuminations. A large number of these examples are illustrated in this book which takes us from the earliest examples, Byzantine art, links with the Apocalypse, examples from the west (France, Spain, Germany, England and Italy) and more scattered examples.
