Explanation and analysis of the inscriptions on the tombs of ancient rome. This bilingual compendium brings together about two hundred inscriptions from the inner city area between Porta del Popolo, Porta S. Paolo, St. Peter's Basilica and the Lateran Basilica. It is divided into fourteen walks from inscription to inscription. Selected were the historical, religious, artistic and architecturally interesting inscriptions. The oldest date from the time of Augustus, the youngest to the Holy Year 1983-1984, including most of papal Rome since the Renaissance.
