At the beginning of Man and his becoming according to the Vèdànta, this work was presented by us as if it were to constitute the beginning of a series of studies in which we could, according to the case, want to directly expose certain aspects of the metaphysical doctrines of the East, you want to adapt the latter in the way that would have seemed more intelligible and more profitable to us, while always remaining rigorously faithful to their spirit. Here we resume this series of studies, after having had to interrupt it temporarily to draw up other works made necessary by certain considerations of expediency, works in which we have mostly immersed ourselves in the field of contingent applications; but even in this case we have never lost sight of the metaphysical principles for a single moment.
