Are you an 'infidel' (unbeliever)? Mohammad ordered that the pagan idolaters of his day be killed if they did not convert to Islam. These days, however, who is the infidel? Someone unsure about what God to believe in? Or maybe someone who slaughters the innocent in God's name?Let's go one step further: Would you convert to Islam if you had to? Christians or Jews could, technically, also be Muslims, if they believed that Mohammad was a prophet. But was he? His candidacy cannot be discounted simply because he spoke out against the organised religion of the day. That's what prophets do. They are uncomfortably critical. But here is an even more interesting thought: What religion actually was Mohammad? The same as Abraham, presumably, but then what religion was he? A tantalising journey then opens up for the curious, both for believers and infidels: where did religion itself came from? Did you know, for instance, that there was no formal religion until just 7000 years ago or so - and then suddenly everyone got it? That Hinduism, Zoroastrianism and Abraham's faith all had their roots in the same religion? That Socrates and Darius the Great (of Bible fame) had similar beliefs? That Mohammad regarded Jesus as the Messiah, born of a virgin? (Was Jesus the Messiah?) This is a book to help you shape your own opinions, based not on tradition, dogma, bloodshed or prejudice, but rather only on the truth. A truth which will challenge the foundations of what you think you know.
