The Rosicrucian Brotherhood announced themselves in their books the Fama and Confessio in 1615 and 1616 and sparked an enthusiasm among intellectuals across Europe. There immediately arose criticisms and negative responses to this movement to reform knowledge. Robert Fludd was one of the first to respond in defense of the Rosicrucian Brotherhood in a lengthy book of 1617 'An apologetic treatise defending the integrity of the Society of the Rosy Cross.'
