According to Plato, Atlantis was blessed with the best agricultural land in the world. There were many sweet-scented orchards that provided an abundance and variety of fruit, and its farmers produced two crops each year. The rich soil ensured that there was a plentiful supply of food for the citizens and the many animals that lived there, including a large number of mammoths. Near the City of Atlantis a royal palace sat on a small island surrounded by alternating zones of land and water. The city itself contained many beautiful mansions and gardens and had a magnificent temple at its center with ornamentation the likes of which has never seen before. (This small island, Atlantis, is now Harbor Island in Tampa Bay!)
