Among the most celebrated grimoires, the Greater Key of Solomon is a translated anthology of Solomonic magic derived from seven manuscripts spanning the 15th to 17th centuries. Compiled in the late 1800s by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, the work melds elements of both diabolic and divine forces into a thoroughly magical compendium. Organized into two books, it outlines rituals through which the practitioner is believed to summon various demonic spirits and acquire a range of supernatural powers—achieved partly through invocation and partly by the use of pentacles and talismans. The text also details “experiments” involving invisibility, the recovery of lost items, and other magical feats. Notably, it includes an intriguing section on constructing a magic carpet and incorporates several spiritual writings related to Kabbalah. Throughout, both Mathers and Solomon (as featured within the text) repeatedly caution the mage to remain chaste and pure, warning that any deviation might unleash the wrath of the cosmos.
