
When I was 4, I had an experience that signed my life forever. I was running in a country road, with my two older brothers in the countryside in the state of Minas Gerais, where we lived in Brazil, in a location bordering the state of Goias, and we met the biggest snake I ever heard of. It was so big that even though I was staring at it, and it was staring at me in turn, I could not believe what I was seeing. My brothers ran away quickly, shouting out loud in fear because they understood immediately what that thing was, but I was too little to understand what I was really seeing and so I keep running in its direction before I realized that that monster was a living being. I got really near the monster when it stopped crawling raised its head, as it heard my brothers shouting. It saw me and stared at me. Its girth was like an average adult man's and it was at least 20 meters long. As it heard my brothers' shouting, it raised its head, which was as big as a calf and as high as a three or four-floor building. I understand that it is hard to believe but it is the truth. However, it is not about its size I am writing, I have something more important to say. I am describing the whole situation because something really important happened that day. As I said, I was a very little boy and barely understood that that monster was a snake, but I understood that the best thing I could do at that moment was to stay motionless. I stop breathing and did not move a finger. The snake looked for an instant in the direction I was supposed to run and then returned its gaze towards me again, this time, it turned a little bit its head to one side, as if it were analyzing me properly as if had not understood why I was still stationary. It was clear to me all these things and after a few seconds, it gave up on me and resume crawling away. After many years, I read somewhere that that kind of snake is almost completely blind.
