Wabi-Sabi means always subtly changing and is the first step to Satori (enlightenment). It is wisdom in natural simplicity. Satori is sudden enlightenment and state of consciousness attained by intuitive illumination representing the spiritual goal of Zen Buddhism. The book was inspired by Astronaut Edgar Mitchell who experienced a sense of universal connectedness in1971 on the return trip from the moon on Apollo 14. In his words, “I realized that the story of ourselves as told by science, our cosmology, our religion – was incomplete and likely flawed. I recognized that the Newtonian idea of separate, independent, discreet things in the universe was not a fully accurate description. What was needed was a new story of who we are and what we are capable of becoming. He then got his Ph.D. in science and formed the Institute of Noetic Science in 1973. The Institute studies consciousness to create a paradigm shift that will lead to a more sustainable world. This story describes the difficulty of simulating the human brain. But there is evidence that consciousness is more than just a brain function. Artificial intelligence efforts have been ongoing for years without major breakthroughs. Now some effort is being applied to neural and quantum computers which are more compatible with the way the brain works. It is still a monumental task. It is probably impossible unless we think "outside the box" and approach the problem as Edgar Mitchell Ph.D. and Deepak Chopra M.D. suggest. Many science experts have been used to formulate this story. Ervin Laszlo wrote "Quantum Shift in the Global Brain" and along with the Dalai Lamma published "The Manifesto on Planetary Consciousness" As the author I wrote a simple story about the investigation to discover the facts and the attempt to lay the groundwork for simulating the brain and discover where consciousness is in the human being.
