All we know is, that it was far advanced in all those arts and sciences which contribute so greatly to the comfort and adornment of social life - that it had a profound creed, a consummate polity, a fixed government, and immense material resources at an epoch when Jacob and his sons were pasturing their flocks in the land of Canaan.
