Excerpt from The Religion of Ancient Egypt A word or two of explanation is perhaps needed as regards the form of this second edition of my Gifford Lectures. The second part of the volume containing the Lectures on the religion of ancient Babylonia has been omitted. This has been necessitated by the large amount of new material and knowledge which has been accumulated on the subject since the publication of the first edition of my book. The activity of the various excavating expeditions which have been ransacking the old libraries of Babylonia, the publication and interpretation of numberless cuneiform tablets in the Museums of Europe and America, and the accession of fresh workers in the field of Babylonian religion have not only compelled a revision of many of our ideas upon the subject, but have so enlarged our knowledge as to make it impossible any longer to include anything like an adequate account of Babylonian religion within the limits of the present volume. It now demands a volume to itself, which I hope will not be long in appearing. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
