Excerpt from Annales du Service des Antiquités de l'Égypte, 1422, Vol. 22 Three inscribed blocks of basalt were found about the same time, in different parts of the site. These evidently belong to a procession of nomes and other personifications, and the cartouches show that they date from the reign of Ptolemy Soter. One is a mere fragment, which does not seem to be worth publishing. Of the other two the best preserved (see p. [i) contains the names of several divisions of the and nomes of Lower Egypt. In Naukratis, II, pp. 80, 83, and Mound ofthe Jew, p. 69, Mr. Griffith mentions an inscribed block, probably a nome list, found at Neqrash near Kom Gaief; and M. Daressy tells me that he has seen some fragments of a similar kind at Gabares in the same neighbourhood. Pre sumably then all these stones are relies of an Egyptian temple in Nau kratis. I may also call attention to the fact that the hieroglyphic copy of the priestly decree in honour of ptolemy'epiphanes, usually known as the Damanhour copy of the Rosetta stone, was found at Naukratis, not at Damanhour; and such 00pies can only have been 'erected in Egyptian temples.
