Its first sovereign was Sisy phua the son of Bolus and upon the expulsion of his descendants Bacchia assumed the reins' of power. The government after this became aristocra tical a chief magistrate being annually chosen by the name of Prytanis. At last Cypselus usurped the supreme authority which be transmitted to his son Periander who was reckoned one of the seven wise men of Greece.
