LECTURE NOTES TO ACCOMPANY THE 6-LECTURE VIDEO SERIES. Dr. William J. Neidinger has prepared a 6-lecture adult education series on video, "The Greek Myths.'" The series begins with a discussion of various ancient and modern theories about what a myth is, then outlines the origin of the Olympian gods. Subsequent lectures explore the deities Athena, Poseidon, Zeus and Dionysos, followed by the stories of the First and Second Heroic Ages. This new volume is a companion to the video series, and comprises lecture notes in outline format. Notes are illustrated with thumbnail color photos, diagrams, maps and charts referenced in the video programs. It is not a stand-alone account of Greek mythology, but is meant to be used as a study guide by viewers of the video series. LECTURE TITLES: 1. The Nature of the Myth2. The Birth of the Olympians3. Athena, Poseidon and Zeus4. Dionysos: Ecstasy and Enthusiasm5. The First Heroic Age6. The Second Heroic Age
