This book analyses the stylistic, iconografic and historical aspects of the Chigi olpe, the famous Protocorinthian vase dating back as early as ca. 650 BC. Its iconographic program conveys the ideology and the historical context of the Corinthians who used the olpe in their symposia: the question is which society was mirrored in it, as the vase refers to a critical moment in Corinthian history, i.e. the transition from oligarchy to tyranny.
