
The author has not confined his history to "Military annals." for there are chapters on Literature. Archeology and Civil Life, and the lives of the great men of Greece are given due attention. Herodotus is drawn on as one of the chief sources. The first volume closes with the Advance of Xerxes from Thermopylae to Athens.
