Tarquin, éco nome, refusa. L'année suivante, elle revint, dit au roi qu'elle avait brûlé trois de ses neuf livres et lui offrit les autres pour le mème prix. Tarquin la tint pour folle et la chassa. Un an après il la revit: elle avait brûlé trois livres encore, et des trois qui restaient elle voulait tou jours la mème somme. Tarquin alors, soit sur un bon conseil, soit de lui - mème, la reconnut pour sage, lui fit compter l'argent et les trois livres furent conservés dans le Capitole: les livres sibyllins.
