Author Description

This volume was the first in a series intended to publish the catalogue of the collections in the Gennadius Library. It focuses exclusively on 19th-century travelers accounts, cataloging 1,206 items, the last 110 of which are mainly pictorial. The arrangement is chronological by date of publication, with cross-references to the date of travel. Brief commentary listing the places visited is added by the compiler, and an index both of authors and of topographical names makes easy reference.
